I am 54 and want to go into nursing. Not much money and only h.s dipl. Any programs for someone in my shoes?

I am interested in pursuing a career in nursing. Was a nurse aid for many years. No money to go to college and wonder with the nationwide nursing shortage if there are any programs that help people like me go back to school.

You're an excellent candidate for a community college-based nursing program. They're normally cheap (subsidized) and fairly quick, often with courses offered at more flexible hours. Check around your local CC's for a nursing program, and think about whether you really want an R.N. or wouild be satisfied with an LPN.

I would check out local community colleges or technical colleges. Most have financial assistance, career planning counselors, etc. This could be perfect for you! Good luck!

My MIL entered nursing school at the age of 48. It was a lifelong dream of hers. I congratulate you!

Check with your nearest community college about getting into the nursing program. You will probably have to take some courses before you can get into the program, so it may take you about three years to obtain your nursing degree.

Also check with the college's financial aid office. If your income is low, there are plenty of grants and scholarships for nursing students to cover your costs.

If you are employed at a hospital as a CNA, they may help pay for some of your tuition.

First fill out a fafsa form. go to fafsa.gov i believe you will need your tax information. This will determine how much financial assistance you will recieve. Next check with your cc college most info. could be found on their website. They probably have a 2yr nursing program at the cc is so much cheaper than a univ. and you can still become a rn... good luck
