I'm going to college to become a nurse next year. should i be a doctor? how do you know if you can handle it.

i don't know if i can handle being a doctor- like the hours and the all the chemistry required. i'm a little nervous. at the same time i really like the idea of becoming a nurse. this is so frustrating and my parents think i can't make up my mind- i just don't want to fail and pick the wrong thing. help!

Many nurses apply for medical school. Even more go for a specialty master's in nursing. Go for nursing and if you change your mind later then do at that time when you really want it.

The best thing for you to do is become a CNA (certified nursing assistant) first and see if you like that kind of work. I can tell you from experience that it is very hard work and you will learn alot more too. You will do alot of stuff that nurses don't do. You will also get to see thing that only nurses do that CNA'S dose not do. But I can definitely tell you that you will know if you like that kind of work. The classes are about 13 weeks long and you can go to work right away. Then you can get your state certification.

Being a doctor is a huge commitment and if you are doubting if you really can handle it, then you're probably not doctor material. I'm really not trying to sound rude or anything but medical school is a lot of hard work and commitment that anyone less than absolutely passionate will end up hating it, and you don't want to regret wasting your money and time like that.

There actually are classes in medical school that are intentionally ridiculously hard, just for the purpose of "weeding out" those who are not die-hard prospective doctors.

I would say if you know you want to be in the medical field and you are already interested in nursing, go for nursing. If down the road you decide you definitely want to become a doctor, then at least you have that background and experience from nursing to make medical school easier for you.

best of luck! xx

I would suggest that you talk to a doctor and a nurse that you know and ask them how they prepared for their career and how they like it. Also I would suggest that you either enroll in a summer program at a hospital or volunteer at on it will give you great exposure into both careers. All you have to do is follow your heart and know what you really want to do.
Hope this helped
