I want to major in nursing, any nurses out their to give me any advice? |
I will be a first time freshman in college, andI want to major in nursing. I was wondering how hard is nursing school anyway? How many hours do you have to study? What are clinicals like? My mom went to nursing school...its very hard.you have to be very very determined.and to be accepted into a good school you must have good grades.hours and hours of studying are involved.clinical are awesome from what my mom said.and unless you are determined i wouldn't do it. every school is different, but if u want to have ur degree in nursing,, u need 4 years and that includes ur first year of general science, unlike other majors, it will involve clinicals, lots of case presentations, case studies, care plans etc. if u are patient enough to read for long hours and u have the energy to wake up early all the time...nursing is for you Have a good GPA - I think a 3.0 or higher. I found it easier to take some of my courses in summer session,,,you study the chapter and test that fri.over it,,,it's hard to remember during the fall with only 3 or 4 test.and if you fail one,you might as well give it up..chemistry was difficult for me...I don't care what they say you really have to have a 3.0 average in your basic courses to be accepted in to the nursing program...so be ready to study 24/7. I am in my 2nd year of RN school and I graduate May of 2008, the RN program is hard but so worth it, I study alot my classmates became my family. Clinicals are the same as if you were a nurse they expect the same professionalism, if if you have been trained to performed a procedure he expect you to perform that procedure in clinicals, at least that is what the instuctors at the college i go to expect. But I tell you in the end it so worth it. Nursing school is very tough to get into, talk with the nursing advisors and your school and ask them ways you can become the ideal prospective student. I studied around 20-40 hours a week on top of 6 hour a day lectures and 20 hour week clinicals. You can do it but dont under estimate how tough it will be |
