What to major in college to work with diabetes?

i am a junior in highschool and i would like to go to college and become a nurse and to be able to work with researching diabetes to help make medications and try to find cures what would be courses to take in highschool and in college and what would be a major to go into to be able to follow through with these goals i would like to start preparing.

no i do not have diabetes. my mother does (type 1) ever since she was 16 it runs in my fmaily and most likely when i have children they will also have it. so it would mean at lot to me and i know alot to others to help out with this. thanks for the compliments

First of all, way to go! You are definitely on the right track to a bright future by setting goals and focusing yourself at this point in your life.

If you are interested in nursing I would assume that track would require lots of math, biology, chemistry, etc. A college advisor can better help you when the time comes to pick the particular classes.

There are also other routes you could take to work with diabetic patients and do research on the topic. I am a Diabetes Health Educator with my local health district. My BS degree is in English and my MA will also be in English when I finish in Dec. 2006. I have a background in education also. So, it doesn't necessarily take a background in the health field to work with the condition.

Good luck and best wishes working on your goals!

I have no clue. Do you have diabetes? I am 16, and I have type one, and I want to thank you for wanting to find a cure, that really means a lot to me. The world needs more people like you.

Since you're still in highschool, I would take as many science and math classes as possible. Take chemistry!

Take tons of math, science, and anatomy. Good luck! I want to be a nurse as well.Excellent career choice and I hope you do well.

we just found out my sister has type1 and i my self what to become a nuse, i think you should talk to your teacher about it they might help.
