College and a criminal record? |
i have a previous drug charge from two years ago i will be eligible to recieve a pardon in 2 years and clear my record i want to take nursing .so can i enroll in college now and take the course or will it be a waste of time should i wait for my 2 years to be up.will i be able to take the clinical part of the program.any nurses please answer This is a tricky question, and it depends on how deep your school wants to dig. Some "expunged" records are allowed to be dug up for some jobs where a person's character is of upmost concern, like a nurse, cop, etc. If I were you I would take all the pre-reqs and co-reqs while you are waiting for your record to be cleared, and then apply for nursing school (aka the actual nursing classes and clinicals.) If they turn you down, the classes you took for nursing can be put toward a wide variety of other things. My husband has a criminal record and is in his last semester of college. Your record won't be a problem for the sake of enrolling in and attending college. One area where you may encounter a problem, however, is with your financial aid. The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) asks a question directly relating to if you've been convicted on drug charges. They can deny giving you student loans if you have - but I'm not sure of the time frame for how long the go back for the question. Good luck - and definitely go to school! you can go to a local police station and get your charges expunged! all you have to do is pay money and they will be erased off your records you'll just have to pay for it yourself |
