I am 40 and always wanted to be a nurse I have some college but I am in debt, but still want to go any ideas? Well there is the grant/ loan avenue you can take....however a lot of nursing facilities are dying for nurses and a lot of them offer to pay for school as long as you sign a contract to work there for like a year or 2. The lack of LPNs and Rn's in the united states has been a really big concern and there are a lot of incentives out there you just have to look for them. get gvt grants or student loans.. very easy to obtain grants, student loans, do you have anyone that could loans loans loans...then pay it all off and the debt you have now once you get a good job. you can do it. Have a word with your local hospital , citizens advice and help shop.Go for it,good luck. get a job in a hospital, doing anything. Most have a tuition re-reimbursement program for nursing. Hart, continue with your goals and plans. As far as debt,,well get used to it. There are colledges and schools online now for you to study, quite cheap to. Go for it. Its only money. Good luck. (im on my third career and Im 55 years old) GO FOR IT !!!!!!! Why not start at the financial advisor at your local community college: cheaper and you can get your LPN in 2 years or less than work as you go on for your RN. DO NOT GIVE UP THIS DREAM!!!!! try with good effort u will definately suceed i will pray to god apply for student loans, maintainance loans and grants. they provise you with money whilst you are studying.you don't have to pay back the maintainace loan. Whether u go to school or not three years from now you'll be 43. Apply for low interest rate student loans, you will be allowed to defer payment until after you graduate. Well if you can go. A lite going somplace is better no lite at all. Your debt is somthing you will always have. Just think one day your problems with bills will be a tax rite off becase your dead. Go to school. Hope that helped u. Get any health related job that will pay for school. For those who can't afford College the government has programs dont listen to the idiots that say you are too old. the largetst majorty of nurses are between 35-45 years old. more nad more people are changlng careers later in life. my aunt is 37 and just finished getting her RN. depending on your income you may qualify for some grants from the govt you dont have to repay, also you maybe eligilble for student loans that will have suspended payments until you graduate. i dont know where you live but alot of community colleges or lpn and rn programs which can be alot less expensive than a traditional college or university. also if you land a job in the healthcare field alot of places offer tuition reimbursement. i am going to get an stna/cna license so i can work in the hospital while i work on the lpn and then i will do a bridge program to get the rn. also there are alot of regional and organizational scholarships. i would check around at local colleges also the library will have books on this as well, i dont know if you are a minority but there is such a need so there are alot of scholarships for minority students. youll always have a job thats for sure! First, check with your local community college or technical school. Many are offering RN courses that can be completed within 2 years. Speak with a financial aid rep about scholarships that are available to non-traditional students. File your FAFSA (fafsa.ed.gov). Also, check into the WIA (Workforce Investment Act) program in your area. This is for students who have limited income. As far as debt, check with a consumer counseling agency and see if there are options for you. Also, check into scholarships through your local community foundation. A great website to register for scholarships, grants, and low interest loans is fastweb.com This is a huge database of scholarships, grants, loans, and contests for school money. yes, GO. you are young enough to go back to school / get through it and work in the field/ maybe even do an early retirement from the hospital. DO IT NOW. there are windows of opportunity in life and this is one. it's narrow - i'd jump now and take the chance. try getting a scholarship, http://www.cappex.com/?code=JA9554. I hope this helps. At 40 you are going to have a very hard time learning the technical side of nursing... how do you plan to learn chemistry and pharmacology and the killer of all courses... MICROBIOLOGY... which is ALL MEMORY. |
