I would like to know if i need to attend college before i go to medical school?

i am currently in college persuing a degree in nursing, can i go to med school with or without persuing a specialty, after an assoc. degree or do i need more college? if anyone has any information on this it is greatly appreciated....i just want to know my options, as i am currntly viewing some information as well .all positive answers are greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately, none of your nursing courses will satisfy the requirements for medical school. If you visit the Association for American Medical Colleges web site (http://www.aamc.org/start.htm) you can get the factual information from the sources!

You do have alternatives, should you decide to continue your current course of study. Due to the nursing shortage, there are so many options available to helping you to continue progressing through the nursing career options. Naturally, you are probably aware that the next step up from your basic RN is to obtain your BSN. Your state's Nursing Assocation will have information about every program in your state and the assistance available. You may be surprised that you can earn a stipend while continuing your education.

You can also specialize as a nurse, as well as become an independent practitioner. Nurse Practitioners are highly paid health care providers who see patients in office and hospital settings just like a MD. A majority of anesthesiologists are nurses.

Good luck with your career!

most if not all medical schools in the USA require a 4-year bachelor's degree as a prerequisite to admission. i do not know if the same holds true for med school in other countries, including Mexico

Don't ask the fools on this site a question that can affect the rest of your life. Go to your guidance counsellor.

no cause medical school is basical the same thing only that medical school teaches you what you need to know right away you don't have to do and take classes you don't need that you would have to do in college

I believe you need a bachelor's degree preferably with a science background.

Here is the admission requirements for the University of Pittsburgh Medical School in Pittsburgh, PA where I am from

before going to med school you must complete prerequsites, just like before you go to RN school. I would advise taking pre-med before applying to med school, as this will give you your prerequsites and allow you to take the MCAT- that is the Medical College Achievement Test which you must take before being accepted into med school...
If you take this test and pass it, then you can apply to med school. You must enclose your MCAT scores on your application form I believe...
Hope I have been helpful.

After you get your associates degree in nursing, you will still need to get your B.S. in pre-med and then go on to get your doctorate in medicine. Or you could go for your B.S. in nursing and go on to get your masters degree in a nursing specialty and/or become a nurse practitioner or physician's assistant.

You should really talk with an advisor at your college as they will have the specific information on advanced degrees (they will all tell you though, that you need a B.S. degree before you can go onto your Masters or Doctorate).

Your question is confusing. Most people refer to medical school when wanting to become a doctor. You will need a bachelor's degree to do that. You would be considered pre-med and would take pre-med studies as a major.

If you want to become a registered nurse, you will also need a bachelor's degree for that. Some states may even require a master's degree. You can become a licensed practical nurse (LPN) or a certified nursing assistant (CNA) with either an associate's degree from a junior college (2 years) or through certifying programs at specalized schools. You will have to pass state certification tests in all these fields.

LPN's and CNA's generally back up RN's. The scope of their duties does not go very much beyond general patient care such as bathing, taking vital signs, making beds and in some cases they can pass medication (depending on the state) but usually not.

Please consult an academic advisor at your college. They can tell you what their program offers. If you are in school already, you should know this, but if you don't it is because you haven't been properly advised.
