College to become a prenatal nurse...how long?

prenatal nurses are RN's right?...how long does the schooling typically take and the nursing program? like, working in a doctors office...any info would be great really

Yes, RN is correct though there are other options. THere are 2 year and 4 year RN programs. They are both competitive, and the 2 year programs can take 2-4 years in reality. You would want to specialize in OB/GYN, which deals with pregnant women along with other issues with the female reproductive system. You will need to deal with other areas of nursing during your training, including geriatrics (old people). It is also competitive to get into OB/GYN so you may need to find another job until a position opens up somewhere. If you are determined and motivated you will be fine, but be ready to work for it.

You could also get your BSN (from a 4 year program), then go get your masters and become a midwife. You could then have more responsibilities, I think including delivering babies from pregancies with no complications. You would have a doctor supervising you that would take care of more difficult cases. You make much more money doing this.

Check out this site for information on RNs and advanced practice nurses:

Some offices may also hire medical assistants. This is a lower level job and you would have less patient care, but you can look here http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos164.htm for more information.
