Nursing School and GPA transfer?

Hello. My current college GPA is 1.7. I went for 6 years. I want to enter a nursing program at a community college.

The problem is that the requirements for most programs is a 3.0.

After working hard for a year at a job I hate, I'm ready to go back to school with a serious attitude.

The college credits I got while attending my 4 year university have nothing to do with nursing courses. Some biology courses, computer sciences...core classes too. Nothing that would transfer into the nursing program that I'm looking at. Would my GPA still be affected if I transfered.

Can the damage to my GPA be repaired? I would love a chance to start from scratch. To prove myself. Though I don't think this is ever done with GPAs.

What can be done?
I've already tried to contact a counselor, but I have to wait until they get back from vacation. Meantime, thought I would scout out possible answers here.

Thanks

maybe you should try looking into applying to an lvn program. i know most technical schools are very expensive, but do some research and try and find an adult school or ROP program in your area for they are less expensive.

I think that they consider the current GPA to get considered into the program. I hope you do get it, Good luck!!!

don't waste your time , you won't make it
u won't get accepted to the program

You're in a pretty tough position. Honestly, with a 1.7 the odds are not even close to being in your favor. Most nursing programs have that gpa requirement as a way of showing a certain type of student that they accept. 3.0 to them equals a student who has a good chance of being successful. 1.7 gpa does not say that.

What you can do that could help is go to the community college as an undecided major and take courses that will count towards the nursing program. You'll probably have to take courses like Anatomy and Physiology, Pathophysiology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Nutrition, Human Development, etc. You'll probably have to get C's (preferably B's) or higher to boost your GPA and make yourself look good. Then you can apply to the nursing program once you are there and they have record of work you've done at their college.

Check the community college's website and see if that info is posted.
