Nursing diploma/degree? |
I am going to college to get my nursing degree and am wondering what peoples views are on the nursing profession? I am quite proud to say that i am going to be a nursing student but when i tel people like my friends they stick their noses up and none of them have congratulated me even though they know how hard it has been for me and how much I needed to get into college. I dont know what there problem is I mean most of them work in call centres and in shops so its not as if they have high flying careers to look down on mine!! whats the problem with them? That answer before me is a bunch of horse S*&%. I get nothing but respect from people. When I go out to eat during lunch I usually forget to take of my ID tags off. People see them and smile and give me congrats for what I am doing. At the bed side of course, dont expect patients to be all zip a dee do da. But at the end of the day when I say im leaving, they always say thanks. Get used to it. Being a nurse, you will be a "dumping ground" for everyone. If a patient's room is too cold, who do they call? Maintenance? No, the nurse. If their food is too cold, who do they call? Dietary? No, the nurse. You will get b**ched at for EVERYTHING! You will get from patients, their families, every other department in the hospital, and the doctors. Don't forget the doctors. They will treat you like you are a second class citizen. It doesn't matter how good of a nurse you are, you are a pile of sh*t in their eyes. All this to be forced to work every other weekend and holiday, as well as swing shifts and off hours. So don't plan on getting the respect you deserve from anyone. You go to nursing because you care about people and you feel good taking care of them. You won't get any pats on the backs from many people. |
