Would like to pursue nursing but?

It's seems really difficult to get into nursing programs at the college level these days (BSN and above). I am getting my degree in Anthropology (BA) and will graduate next year. Along the way, I will have completed all the pre-reqs such as Anatomy and Physiology, College Algebra, Microbiology, etc.. However, my GPA will most likely not be very high. Even if I ace all my classes from now on until I graduate, I will still only have a 3.2 GPA.

If I fail to get accepted into the BSN program, would I be able to go to community college to take the RN program? I have already decided to be a nurse and it really doesn't matter to me if I have to go back to community college. Since my pre-reqs would be completed, would it be easier for me to get into the RN program at the community college level?

Either way its gonna be hard to get in. Especially here where I am in California. The programs are really impacted. To be perfectly honest I applied 3 times before I got in. But It was so worth it because this is my dream, to be a nurse. Also try private colleges. I checked those out and its much easier to be accepted to their BSN programs but very expensive. I'm now in an ADN program and thinking of getting my RN to BSN when I'm done. But don't give up and don't quit trying. You may not get in the first time or you might but apply everywhere you can and get a job in health care doing something else while you wait, this will give you experience and more insight when you do start. Good Luck!
You might already know this but both the ADN and BSN have to take the NCLEX and both are RNs when they graduate, and from what I hear start off at the same rate of pay. The ADN programs are a bit more intense and the BSN program has an extra year of theory, if I'm not mistaken. :)

Never settle, you only live once.
Go for what you want in life. Whats the worse that can happen? You don't get it? Well at least you tried.

Since you'll already be done with all the per-reqs all you have to do is apply to get in the RN program. They don't base it on high GPA anymore, it's like a lottery now. They pick 40 each school year to get in. My councilor also says, since there are few male students applying, if your a male, there is a great chance that you'll get in the program.

I wish Iwas done with all the pre-reqs.... GOODLUCK =)

If you will already hold a bachelor's degree in another field, look for colleges that offer "Accelerated BSN" programs. Theses programs are designed for people with a BA/BS in another field who want to earn their BSN. Competition is not as great for admission to these programs because not as many people already hold degrees.

Talk to the colleges that offer the traditional BSN programs and ask how your previous degree transfers and if it makes a difference in admission preference. It might. And a GPA above a 3.0 is still very good, you don't need a 4.0 to get in. There are other factors they look at, including if your pre-reqs and gen ed requirements are completed - which yours will be. You'll have a pretty good shot at getting in to any program.

Good luck!
