Does anyone have any advice for a freshman in college-to-be? Trying to figure out my future here...?

I'm trying to decide between Regis University (in Denver) and Marquette University (in Milwaukee). I don't know quite where to go yet, and have only until May 1st to decide. That part, I'm not so worried about. I'm just kind of scared for college. So I'm looking for advice on college from a nursing majors point of view. Thanks so much! Oh also, I'm trying to decide between OB nursing or working in the ED. Or maybe saying screw this, i"m gonna be an EMT. My parents kind of want me to be a PA. I'm so confused!!! Any suggestions?

I hope that whatever college you go to, you don't have to 'choose a final major' while you are still not even a student ... and certainly not in your freshman year. Nursing - EMT - Phyisician's Assistant --- WHAT ABOUT GOING TO MEDICAL SCHOOL AND BEING A DOCTOR??? Or what about choosing an 'related non-medical' field, like Psychology? What about all of the other 'things' that you could be ... an artist, a composer, a social worker, even an Entrepeneur with a 'web-store' selling 'things' that you make or that other people can make for you? If you are 'sure' that you want to be in the 'medical field' then you should choose the college with the BEST SCHOOL for that 'major' ... but you should take the 'first year courses' in a WIDE VARIETY of subjects to BE ABSOLUTELY SURE you've chosen 'right.' I'm sorry to say this, but what your parents WANT is NOT PART OF YOUR CHOICES. This is 'your life' and you MUST CHOOSE FOR YOURSELF what you want to 'be' when you are a grownup ... so 'take your time and choose wisely' now, even if that means that you need to 'take a year' before you 'decide on the final major' you'll take ...
It is FINE to be 'confused' at this stage of the 'college experience' ... it's actually better that you can be confused NOW than it would be later, after you were already in a 'strong Major' that might be 'wrong' for you ...
It's also fine to be 'scared of college' ... you'll be 'moving away from home' and 'living on your own' for the first time in your life, and you are 'changing and growing' each and every day ... so take at least a 'week' to 'think and decide on your own' ... and I know that I'd go to Marquette U because that is a 'better known school' but I don't have a clue where you live and whether you want to go to a better known school or not ... that is UP TO YOU and you are 'the only person in the world' who can and should make that choice. So SLEEP ON IT and don't even 'try to decide' until the 24th of this month ... and 'think hard' about it because you are 'trying to decide what to do with the rest of your life' ... and maybe the BEST THING for you to do right now is to decide NOT TO DECIDE until you have a year of 'general college' under your belt and have taken a 'wide variety of subjects' so that you can accurately measure your 'strengths and weaknesses' and get a better idea of 'where you want to be' and how to get there. GOOD LUCK ... it's a 'long hard road' but it's also a whole lot of 'fun' ... you'll make new friends and discover new interests ... and I 'envy' you that ... even though I've 'been there' and 'done that' and am TOTALLY HAPPY NOW ...

first relax about it

when you get there, just say you are chosing nursing as your major

then take classes, your advisor will tell you what you need to know to decide more

also, always sign up for one extra class, so you can drop the worst class, or if the teacher is requesting sex or something

I don't want to talk to you about your eductaion. I want to talk to you about the men that will be on the hunt for you specifically for the reason that you are a college woman. Now that you are in an exploring stage, many men will try to bed you . Say no ! Don't let them take advantage of you for your naiivety. Realize how most American men are and stay away from bars and clubs. Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness and all these things shall be delivered unto thee as well including a great guy for a husband. Just be careful. College is a sexual free for all.

You are in need of professional career counselling. For one thing, running off to an expensive four-year university is a waste of money if you want to become an RN or an EMT; a two-year degree from a community college can get you into those professions faster and cheaper.

The four-year university can provide more fun times, if your parents are wealthy and footing the bill or if you can get a full-ride scholarship--otherwise you're looking at high-five or even low-six figure DEBT when you graduate, and even a decent salary in health care won't pay off that much student loan before you retire!

Phone the student services department of a nearby community college and ask if you--as a prospective student--can make an appointment with their career counselors to help you choose a career. They'll help you figure out which of those careers you will love the most; they'll have resources to inform you about demand and salary for each job; they'll be able to tell you what degree you will have to have and where you can go to get it (and they'll try to recruit you for themselves, of course).

Too many students do it backwards; go to college, choose major, then hunt for a career. That's kind of like going on vacation by jumping in the car and starting to drive, then picking a destination based on which road sign looks interesting, and then once you're there trying to arrange lodgings and find fun things to do. Your education, like your vacation, is better if you figure out your destination first and then draw up a road map for how you'll get there.
