College Issue?

just graduated from high school and i am now entering college. I am 16. I applied for this university for BS Physical Therapy and got in. I really like this university and i already paid my reservation fee but my parents gave me the insights of taking up nursing and how rewarding it would be in the end compared to PT. So they are asking me to apply on a cheaper college and take nursing instead so i wont waste money and time (1 yr to be exact) shifting from PT to nursing in the univ i got into, besides i dont think i can meet the requirements of the grade to be able to shift. What should i do? im confused because i like the university but my parents made me realize that nursing is WAY better and i want to take that course but i already told EVERYBODY that i was studying at the university. I know nursing is hard and i am not good with science and math but i know i can work hard on it.. please help me, tell me what right choice to make.

btw. is physical therapy really bad? i only applied for it because i heard that it has fewer worl hours but my mom said that nursing has fewer work hours and definitely higher pay and by next year the US will be adding demands for nurses because of 4 patients to 1 nurse policy and will cause the hospitals to cut off on therapist instead. Please tell me about all of these stuff too... i want to earn more mone and have life too.. i really dont want to be a slave to work

What do YOU want to do? Is it only studying at the University is what you want or a safe and secure future? Where are you located?
Instead of breaking your head try this... List the pros and cons for each of those and see what you end up with.
I am a nurse and know the demands on the job... and for the job... US is going to require LOTS of nurses in the future.
Work wise it is the same... and pay depends on what type of work you do... regular or contract, or you take up separate patient assignments.
Study wise... you could do Diploma course in Nursing and go on upto Ph D in Nursing. There also is a demand for teaching professionals in both the courses.
Do I make it more complicated? These are my thoughts, but I'll stick to my suggestion... make a list of pros and cons with your parents and decide what you'd actually like to do and why...
All the best.

First, what do YOU want to do, parent influence aside.
Second, PT can be extremely rewarding as it helps people to function normally in life and you can see them growing and become better. Pay is about the same for both.
Third, you can do both if you want, never rule out more education, especially since you are so young.
Fourth, there is some math in nursing but not a whole lot, and the science is more biological and medically based.
Fifth, no one here can tell you what the right choice is, it is up to you and every choice will give you a different but not necessarily worse life. If you are confused it is good to get advice from others but it is ultimately up to you. I'd suggest taking the summer to shadow a PT and a nurse and see which job, day to day activities, you like better.

Hope that helps, good luck

I am currently enrolled in the LPN (licensed practical nurse) program at my school. I can tell you that it is hard and there is a bit of math and science but nothing you cant do. Please don't let anyone fool you into thinking that nurses have shorter hours because they don't. 12 hour shifts are the norm. I worked for a PT before and in her case she made more than I ever will, but that's her case. My point I guess is...What will you be happy doing in 20 years? Nurses have a high burn out rate, but you can usually switch jobs, say from emergency room to the telemetry unit, if this happens. As far as being qualified to attend nursing school maybe you should apply there and see what happens. BUT above all, what is it that makes YOU happy? Your parents will not be working your job. That's your decision.

Are you kidding? PT's make way more money than nurses and they need the same undergrad courses in science and anatomy that nurses do. Nursing is easier than PT and with an MS in PT you can actually have your own practice. I don't think your parents know much about it. Talk with people in the professions. What do you see yourself doing?

Edited:

You need to decide based upon where you live now. There is no guarantee the US or UK want YOU to immigrate. Simply because you can speak English does not mean they will be able to relate culturally to you. When I am ill I want someone I am sure got the training required and understands my culture. Most US nursing schools are increasing their openings- we hope to have enough of our OWN graduates to cover our needs. I've had to fire many a foreign nurse.
