Applying to nursing school?

I am high school student and am thinking of applying to nursing school in college, but I am not exactly sure how it works. Ok, if I am accepted to the four-year nursing program, does that mean I have to take pre-requisite in my freshman yearh in college and the other nursing classes in the last three years? Do I have to reapply to nursing school after the first year to continue the program? Even if I am not accepted to the nursing program for freshman year, can I still take pre-requisite classes and then apply to nursing school (for BS-N) after my freshman year? If so, does it mean that I can still major in nursing even if I am not accepted in the first year? I am so confused.

You will have to start with your prereqs. Our nursing school is designed so that applicants get admitted depending on how many points they have. The minimum number of points needed to apply is three but they have never accepted anyone with fewer than eight points. The maximum number of points is 13. I have three semesters of prereqs and THEN I will be ready to apply.

I assume you are talking about a 4 year bachelors degree in which case you will have a year of prereqs and three years worth of nursing school. An associate degree requires two years of nursing school, and an LPN requires one year of nursing school.

No you do not have to reapply each semester, but beware many students are dropped each year due to low grades. In our school, we have to pass each course with a 75. Tests are given every Friday.

Yes, you will start out by taking prereqs your freshman year, and yes, you can declare that your major is nursing at any time.

Contact your college of interest for more information. Good luck!

Most of the time you take basics the first 2 years and nursing courses the last 2. There are some courses you can take in nursing in the first 2 years. You would actually have to be admitted to a nursing program before they would let you take any nursing classes. There are certain requirements to be admitted to a nursing program and you would need to contact each school to get that info. If you went and became an LPN (10 months then you could a transfer in and get your RN in 1 year
