Getting your bachelor of science in nursing?

Can you get your BSN from going right into a program for that right out of college? Also, how long would it take to get this degree if I go to college for nursing right away after high school?

Thankyou!

my highschool GPA is a 94%

You have two options, either go straight into a 4 year university and earn your BSN, or, get your Associates Degree in Nursing and complete your BSN later.

Both programs are competative to get into, and you might not get in the first year you apply.

For a 4 year university program, you usually take your general education courses and science prerequisites in the first two years and the last two years are your nursing courses. BUT - you can only finish in 4 years IF you get accepted the first time you apply, AND if you take a full-time courseload for the entire 4 years, which is very stressful.

I always recommend people get their BSN, but honestly there is no hurry to do it right away. For many people it makes more sense to earn their ADN, which makes you eligible to take the NCLEX and work as a RN sooner than if you went into a BSN program. A benefit is that you can try to get a job at a facility where they would pay tuition reimbursement and help pay for you to complete your BSN down the road.

This is what I did. Got my ADN first, went to work, got tuition paid for. And I must say that the BSN completion programs are FAR less stressful than the initial ADN program which earns you your licensure. The completion courses are a piece of cake. I took my classes online, too, which worked well for my independent learning style.

Whatever route you choose, good luck!

you should get ur degree in 4 years. Im going for a bsn too. it takes u 4 years to become a registered nurse and once u pass the NCLEX you can practice as a nurse.

Typically you could get a BSN in four years, including college.

But a word of warning... spots in nursing programs are HIGHLY competive. You will need to maintain the highest GPA possible to get accepted.... If your GPA is a C average you can bet you will be left in the dust...

It all depends on your state. In Delaware for instance, for RN it takes 2 yrs of school 2 yrs of clinicals which leaves you tied in school for 4 yrs. So in order to get your bachelors in Nursing you need need 4 years of actual school plus your 2 years of clinicals. I would just check with your state or a local college!!!
