Am 31 years, can i go to a 4 yr college and become a successful Doctor even though i have a diploma in nursing You're going back for a post-bac? Awful waste of time. Time is something you don't have to waste as you're going to be nearing an age where some med schools will stop considering you as being too old to help society enough. of course you can, and more power to you....the diploma in nursing should help It will be tough, but it is possible, i say go for it! You'll never have another chance to do it so jump on board and have fun doing it! hi, Well you can do it, but you will have to pretty much start all over in your education. At least that is what it sounds like from what you have said in your limited post. Depending on where you got your nursing diploma, you are going to have to go back to school and take all the pre-med courses. If you went to an accredited school for your nursing degree then some of these classes my overlap, but I doubt you took the recommended year of physics or the year of organic chemistry so you will have to go back and get another degree. Which you are looking at probably 2-4 years depending on your previously completed classes. Then you have to do the med-school process wich is between 5-9 years really depending on the area of medicine you decide to pursue. At the earliest you will be 40 by the time you finally become a licensed physician so that is always something to consider. If you think that you can take the time off of work and be able to afford all the schooling then by all means go for it!! But there are a lot of things to consider before starting something that is such a major undertaking. You'll be fine, and you'll actually be starting ahead of the game, because quite a few, if not all, of the courses that you took for your nursing degree can be applied to your doctorate. Given the fact that you have work experience, you may be able to get some kind of college credit for that (internship hours, maybe?). To be honest, unless it's a surgeon, nurses do more than doctors do, anyway. Check with an advisor for more accurate information, but I'd say go for it. You're in a much better position than the average person seeking a medical degree, because you've already been in the field and you've already passed a large majority of the classes that you'll need to take. Good luck! |
