Do you go to College and then go to a Nursing school or can you just go right into a nursing school?

Do you go to College and then go to a Nursing school or can you just go right into a nursing school?

You would go to a University or College that has a nursing program. You would have to take some general college classes like psycology and biology for a year or two, then apply to get into their nursing program.

Some community colleges have nursing programs that sort of just put you straight into it. You have the option to take night classes and work on it part time.

I would suggest that you contact a University counselor and talk with them, they would be able to give you a more specific answer. Also, different colleges may conduct their program a little differently from others.

There are many technical schools and independent programs that offer nursing certifications without going to college. There are even some fast-track programs that take less time than conventional nursing schools. Just search online, the information is there.

Nursing programs tend to be competitive. Depending on what school, they may use these things to rank students: GPA alone, lottery system, waiting list, or point system.

CNA - Little school, normally not considered college credit. Some nursing schools require that you have this to be admitted to the program.

LPN - Normally a one year program.

RN- Associate or Bachelor degree. You may have to take certain college courses (A&P, chem, math, etc) before admittance to either program. Some schools also have a fast track program if you already have a bachelor's in another field.
