I just got accepted into the nursing program at my college and I start the program this summer ...?

What should I expect? I'm really nervous but also excited! Any advice will help!

What should I expect? I start clinicals and everything...whats in store for me? Any advice is appreciated!

Take the how to study seminar that's offered.
Do all your assigned readings following the outline of the syllabus and text.
Do the questions at the end of the chapters and the CD that comes with the book.
Practice, practice your dose calculation. When you think you have them down do some more.
Ask question in and out of class if your not sure about something.
First semester is a lot of work but some handle it a little better than others. Its up to you if you sink or swim. Use all resources available to you. Nursing school is a lot of work but you make it hard, manageable or easy.
Be present and early for all your classes.
Make time for yourself and your loved ones.
Eat well, get rest and exercise or those lbs will creep up on you.
Clinicals are fun, its pretty neat to see all the things you learn in classes and labs come together. For my first clinical I was at a nursing home, not too much goes on there. My second semester was more hands on (Psych/Rehab) I was passing meds, doing wound care, Foley catheters.... I start my third semester in the fall which will involve even more contact with my patients. The further along you get the more responsibilities you will have. I was way more nervous than I should have been. One peace of advice my instructor gave me was "you have to feel and act like you belong there". Be prepared and be confident, nurses and patients will respond well to you and it makes you feel comfortable doing your job. I know you will hear some stories about rude hospital staff but I've had all good experiences so far.

Is this your first year?
Basically, this should be just the regular old math, stats, english and science classes...

However, you require CPR training, background security check, and blood tests before even starting the program.

I'm a nurse and honey, it wasnt' easy! But in the long run, it was WELL worth it! Your in for long hours of studying, and late nights. But always keep in mind that you will be set for life once you finish. It gives you some encouragement to keep going when things get tough! Good luck! Feel free to contact me if you need any help. wazzup girl! its a big opportunity, don't wait to lose it...yes nervous is there but you should remember first wat is important to u.....its a big chance so grabbed it...be urself ...and say yes i can do it!

1st of all, congratulation.

well you are looking at alot of laboratories, hand-on work.
Also alot of chemistry, biology, human anatomy and physiology.

Best way to study for biology classes is FLASH CARDs. They save me every time.

Good luck.

My wife is just finishing her RN schooling and I can tell you that after the prerequsite courses it does get a bit tough. As an early answer stated, lots of late nights studying!

My wife has done clinicals in 5 of the major hospitals here in Kansas City and she loved each one. Each series of clinicals was broken down into different types of medicine; a stint in the Cardilogy department here, the maternity ward at another, a nursing home, and now she isworking with pediatrics.

Now I am no med student (I am a graphic designer), but this is just what she has gone through and she has really enjoyed the ENTIRE experience and she has learned a lot.

Just dedicate yourself and enjoy what you are doing and you will be fine.

GODD LUCK!

im into my 3rd year outa 4 n 1/2 yr program... n boy though it cud hav been easy ... the faculty in my college r hardly supportive...
its right wen they say, no pain no gain
i wuznt even intrstd in nursin (journalism being my interest), but now im jus lukin my future in store ... wich ppl r promising will b DEFINITELY gud n rollin afta completion of nursing...

gud luck ... dont b bogged down by fringe failures!
