Nursing course to Medicine...?

I'm thinking of taking medicine after finishing my nursing course. I don't know is it possible to do that straight without taking another course? And how is medicine? Doctors, what advices can you give me? Thanks.

You cannot go to medical school until you finish many prerequisite courses including things like biochemistry, physics, etc. You have to take an entrance exam. You have to hold a bachelor's degree in a related field, so if you don't have a degree in nursing, you can't get into medical school.

It's a competative process. You can't just decide one day to enter medical school. Call med schools in your area and do your research on their admission processes.

I am a nurse and have, in the past, considered going to medical school. Yes, you have to jump through all the hoops like required courses and MCAT exams, etc. Yes, it's a highly competitive process. However, I live just down the road from two universities with med schools and when I was exploring possibilities I went and talked with admissions officers at both. They were both very excited about the idea of my applying for many reasons: 1) someone with clinical experience is a plus; 2) older applicants are helpful for schools that are looking for a more diversified student body; and 3) someone with "life experience" as opposed to just lots of "book learning" makes for a better applicant. I would Google search for something like "medical school applications counselors", find someone in your area, and spend a little $$ for a consultation. (I ended up not applying because of family considerations, not because I was uncertain about acceptance.)

Of course, there's the question of why does anyone want to even consider becoming a physician any more, with all the problems in the profession.....but that's a different subject! :-) Good luck whatever you decide.
