Auxiliary nursing?

I am thinking of going back to work after having my children, would like to work in a hospital, i have a basic degree in anatomy and physiology, what qualifications would i need to be an auxiliary nurse (UK) can you also give me the job description. Need to go back to work but dont know what to do. many thanks

Hi, I've been working as an auxiliary nurse for the past three years.
When you apply for the job, you'll have to take a basic literacy and numeracy test, just to prove you have a good grasp of the English language and maths.
That's the only qualifications you need.
As for the job description, that kinda depends on which ward you work on. But the main things are hands on patient care (washing, dressing, feeding), assisting the staff nurses, escorting patients and relatives around the hospital, basic observations (blood pressure, pulse, oxygen Sat's, resp rates). You can also do courses to perform ECG's and phlebotomy.
Hope that helps.

You don't need any qualifications to be an A/N... some health boards will give you all the training you need where as others may prefer you to have gained some before hand.

Failing working in a hospital..you could gain some experience working in the private sector then reapply for the NHS who have better pay and working conditions.

Good luck
