What are the advantages for nurses with a BS going on for an advanced degree? |
Also, can you tell me what the pluses are for a nurse with a master's obtaining his/her doctorate? BS prepared nurses are at an advantage when seeking an advanced degree because all of their requesite coursework is completed. Associate and diploma nurses have a lot to do prior to seeking a masters. The advantages of an advanced degree are personal. There are monetary advantages to a higher degree as there is more specialization in practice (ie: Nurse Practitioner, nurse anesthetist, Nurse specialist, etc). I dont know about the other masters level specialties, but somewhere around 2015 Nurse Practitioners are going to be required to have a PhD or a DNP to maintain licensure. There are several advantages to advanced degrees in any field, especially nursing, however, it is all dependent on what you want to do with it. Good Luck |
