Nurse job question?

I wasn't sure if this was the right catagory to ask this question, but I'm guessing that a few nurses may browse this catagory so here goes... I'm interested in changing careers and want to go back to school to get a nursing degree...my question is this: I reside in Florida at the moment, but upon completion of school, I would like to move to Ohio. Do different states accept certification from other states or would I have to do training in Ohio as well? Would any additional training be just a test or would I have to pay for schooling in the north? I may decide to just delay school until I move if Florida certification wouldn't be accepted. Thanks for any advice anyone can give me!

I have been a nurse for almost 20 years. It have lived in several states or worked in states other than the one I reside. Although neither of the ones you mention.

Basically, some states require more education (certain classes or more clinical hours) than others. The larger states, include New York and California, and I would assume from my experience Florida would be included, have higher standards. Those states have immediate reciprocity to other states. I would recommend getting your education in Florida and then move to Ohio. You should have no problem, but might if you one day decide to move after leaving Ohio, if originally licensed there.

I received my education in Texas and was originally licensed in California. I have never had a problem getting reciprocity in any other states, but have been told that is because I am from California. My understanding the states included in this list are California, Texas, New York and Florida because they have the highest score required for licensure and educational standards.

That's my two cents. Hope it helps.

i'm no nurse but my aunt is, here in georgia. i know she has had offers to travel and nurse all throughout the u.s. i don't think the requirments change much unless you have bad training.

I know that a beautician can't practice in a different state without getting a certificate from their state. I think they just have to take a test. I am sure that you will just have to take one, too, but I would think you would have to do that. I do not believe they will make you take anymore schooling. Each state does set their own requirements, however, so it should be easy to check through their state licensing office online.
