What's the best level of qualification to aim for in nursing, from a mature student's perspective?

I have various other therapy qualifications but didn't get on well with the PG dip (for related subject degree holders). So, starting again, what's the best level to go for in a new qualification for nursing - if you're in your thirties and don't have the same stamina you use to have... but now need a qualification that will get me guaranteed work for the oncoming years. (UK only please).

Apply to university at diploma level, after the second year is complete, if your grades are good enough, they will invite you to convert to the advanced diploma. This will be your choice and by that time you will know what work is involved and whether or not you can cope with the demand. Either way after successfully completing your third year you can always top up through post registration modules.
