How do i retrain as a nurse?, i have a social science degree?

Hello

Have a look at http://www.nhscareers.nhs.uk/ for further information - go to nursing within the A 鈥揨 section and you鈥檒l find clear, detailed information on the role itself as well as information on training and entry requirements.

You鈥檒l see that there are accelerated programmes for graduates who typically hold a first or second class honours degree in a subject relevant to nursing e.g. biological sciences, social sciences, psychology, behavioural sciences, and health studies. So to find out which is your appropriate training route, you鈥檒l need to establish if your degree falls into this category - you鈥檒l see a link to submit questions on the site.

Entry requirements for nursing courses are set by individual universities, which are required by the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) (http://www.nmc-uk.org/) to ensure that applicants provide evidence of meeting the minimum entry requirements, especially in literacy and numeracy.

A course interview is generally required for nursing courses, so it may be useful to have a look for information on applications and interviews at:
http://www.prospects.ac.uk/cms/ShowPage/...

I hope this is helpful and wish you every success with your future career!

A freind of my daughter graduated with a degree in biology. She then decided she wanted to become a nurse.

Johns Hopkins U (Baltimore) had a two year program for those who had a degree, but not in nursing. The program awards a BS in Nursing.
You may want to check with the colleges who offer nursing programs in your area to see if any of them have such a program.
