How do a medical assistant with an associate degree go about becoming a nurse ?

take the RN classes offered at the college of choice
maybe you can challenge some of the clinicals
talk to the head of the RN program 1st

You still need to go through some sort of formal nursing education to take the nursing board, either at a 4 year or a 2 year school (for an RN); there are some hybrid programs that might credit you some of the MA to a LVN; check with the nursing board in your state; and the nursing schools in your area. There are also some online programs; I have mixed thoughts about those. I am not convinced an online program can really turn out a good nurse since so much is gained through hands-on and interaction with other health care peers.
