Wanting to get a Nursing assistant job...What are my chances of landing the job?

I planning on applying for a night shift nursing assistant job. I have an associates of Arts degree, majored at PU in health promotion (however, fell 2 semester short of completion), and then finished up with a General Bachelors degree at IUPUI. I want to be in the Health field and feel that this could be my way. Are there any NA out there that can give me any advice? Do you like your job? Do you feel you get paid well? Any advice and info would be great!

At the nursing home I work I am not paid well. I make 8.40/hr + .50/hr shift difference. Then if I work BOTH Saturday and Sunday I can make $1 more an hour. I usually need to work over 100 hours in a pay period to bring home $800 on a check.

I like the job ok. It gives me time to study or read because I work 3rd. Also 3rd shift has generally less work to do. Things are pretty calm where I work on most days.

I don't really have much advice. I guess you will just have to work as a nursing assistant to see if you like it.

In the U.S., these jobs are readily available. I did this before I went into nursing. It's a great way to become comfortable in patient care and the medical field in general. It's a tough job though, it can be pretty demanding if staffing is low, and the number of patients you are assigned is high. (Usually the case.) Pay varies a bit depending on where you live.

Good Luck!
