Stuck between Psy D, Nursing or Physician Assitant...?

I have a 3.0 GPA overall and 3.5 GPA in Psychology, I have 1 year left of study.

I was was narrowing down my choices after completing my B.S in Psych and either keep pursuing a degree in Psychology (Clinical) or either go for Nursing or become a Physician Assitant.... I am still stuck between these three...

I would like to know what your thoughts and insight of these 3 field and would like to know what grades are neccesary to go into these programs... Thanks. Any comment are appreciated.

I would say go for the nursing degree. Then if you still have an interest in the mental health field, you can go into psychiatric nursing, but if you decide you prefer physical medicine, you can go into medical nursing.

Nursing would have a ton of job oppurtunities.

Getting into a good nursing school with a 3.0 is going to be tough. I'd say go for the clinical psych degree.

I can Tell you that obtaining a PhD or PsyD in psychology is a heck of a lot of work, time, and dedication to obtain. I am in the final processes of a Clinical PhD with a specialization in neuropsychology. There is a test called the EPPP that would need to be passed before licensure, along with an extra year of clinical supervised experience. This would include an Internship of at least 1000 hours or less for a Master's. It is also quite expensive! Programs are also very competitive!

What is it you truly wish to do? If you want prescription privileges, you need an MD. You could also become an ANP, which is a regular nursing degree along with extra training (two years, I am not sure). I don't know as much about a "physicians assistant."

If you want to conduct therapy, a MS or MA in psych or LCSW would lead you in that direction, again with additional supervising for licensure.

If you would like to converse further, contact me and I can tell you much more.

Because I have a large (by today's standards) family and spent 22 years in the military I have dealt with a number of P.A.s. I'm sure there must be a bad one out there somewhere but I have yet to meet them. I admit to a bias but if you really care about people the PA job gives you almost as much authority as a doctor, more time to be with people and an occasional day off. That sounds like a good deal to me.

Good luck, I hope you get a ton of answers with a diamond in every one of them.

Clinical Psych makes FAR more money has FAR easier hours has FAR less work.

You sit there, listen and talk at them.

You see 5-6 people a day

Maybe you do a group now and then.

Nurse is lots of standing, walking, stress, undestaffing, underpay, under love.

P.A. is probably better if you work for a doctor.

PA can be nice.

The Clinical Psych is going to take 8 years and an Orals Board, mabye even a disseration.
