What kind of grades do you need to get a masters in nursing?

I'm in nursing school right now getting my BSN/RN degree. I used be a 3.8 gpa student until...nursing school. The instructors are cruel and really super hard graders. They give out C's so easily...don't they have consideration for those who want to get their masters. A lot of people say that its easy to get into a masters nursing program w/ ok grades...but I want to go to a university...particularly ucla. Sort of getting worried because even the top A students are struggling and getting low Bs and Cs. Also, if all else fails...to tell u the truth...i think I would be much happier in another profession...maybe I can do something that I enjoy. Don't get me wrong...nursing is a great profession but I'm not estatic about it. It rolls in the money and I could possibly live w/ it for a while but not forever.

To enter any masters program at UCLA, general admission requirements is a 3.0 GPA. (see: http://www.gdnet.ucla.edu/gasaa/admissio...

Now that I've answered your stated question, let me ask you one: why would you want to go to all the work and expense to get a MS in a field when you "would be much happier in another profession"?

Nursing is a very tough program wherever you go. There is a huge amount of information that you must be able to not only learn, but learn to USE and modify to meet individual client needs. It's not uncommon for "A students" in other classes to struggle in nursing. Tests are application level questions and above, not just regurg back the book. It's hard work and if you are "not estatic about it", could it be that this could be affecting your ability to focus and study and therefore be affecting your grades?

I seriously doubt if your instructors are "cruel". "Hard graders", yes, I believe that. However, would you really want "easy graders" who let you slip by without having a real mastery of the topics and then---at the end of 4 years and a LOT of $$$$$---not be ready to pass the NCLEX? What is 4 years of "A"s worth if you don't have the knowledge needed to get the RN license? (NCLEX is NOT an "easy grader")The faculty know what it takes--remember they've been there too--and they want you to succeed. But that means 'succeed' in the big picture sense, not just "get A's".

If you really can only "live with for a while", is it really worth it for you? A long time ago a teacher told me: "The secret to happiness is one thing--find something you love to do and then find a way to get paid for it. IF you do, you'll never 'work' a day in your life!" That's the best advice I ever got. Nursing is too hard to do if you don't love it.
