Nursing vs. Teaching Career?

I'm 23 years old and thinking about enrolling in a 2 year nursing program. I currently have a bachelor's degree in liberal arts.

I also thought about going to grad school, to be a teacher.

I really want to have a family someday. I want to be able to have lots of quality time with my children. I want to have holidays off and the ability to go to my children's functions on weekends and such.

I know teaching is a great career, if you want a family.. But what about nursing?

What are some pros and cons?

With Nursing you have flexiblity- there are dozens of different areas you can work in. You can change at any time. The hours and shift you work are flexible. You can do days, eve, nights- 8hr/10hr/12hr shifts. You can work weekends only or no weekends at all. Some areas are closed on holidays. And some managers allow self scheduling.
Plus Nurses make more money.

As you know teaching would work out well with your family. Nursing is great but if you get a job in a hospital (where I live that is where the highest paid nursing jobs are) your shifts will be erratic at first. Shift work is good though if you do not want to leave your children with strangers when they are young. You can work nights and your husband can work days. That would not be possible with teaching.

The best gift you can give your children is a happy home with a happy mother. Do what you think you will enjoy the best.

Go for nursing. Pay more and there are great scholarships for nursing. Then you could try to become a doctor.
