Breaking Into The Nursing Field?

I'm a single mother of 2. I want to get into the nursing field to earn a RN degree but the schools that I've looked at all say that I will have to stop working for 4 years since all the classes are full time. This is not an option as I have to feed my kids and have a morgage to pay. Any advice on how I can full fill this dream?

what they told you is bull. My friend did the same thing, she has a son to raise. She when to a smaller college that specializes in that field. She just graduated last year after 2 yrs of evening classes. You know where they give Asso. degree after 2yrs. That's what want. Look for schools like that. That's what I'm going to do, but for photography.

The classes are full time but you can still go to school full time and still go in the evening. That's what most folks do anyway. You can do it. Just look for those smaller colleges, for Medial assisting. It's best to do that, then RN. It might be easier that way.

Check with your local hospitals. Here in Alabama some hospitals have jobs for people wanting to get into nursing. Some even have there on training programs.

You can get your LPN in 1 year and then find a bridge program and get your Associates RN in 1 more year. There are ways to quit working. There are all kinds of grants you can get. However, I would first make sure you really want to do this before you make that type of commitment. I made that mistake and HATED nursing. I have my nursing degree but I work in sales now. Try getting a job as a nurse''s aide so you can see how it really is. A lot of nursing homes will hire someone with no experience and pay for you to become certified. At any rate, good luck and don't give up on your dreams. There is always a way to make them happen, just not always an easy way!

Attend a community college. They will let you attend part-time and take classes.
