Honey, tie a band on your head and nurse yourself,,

Enroll in The Royal College of Nursing. Good Luck.

Just apply straight to the hospitals to be an assistant first to try out what the work of a nurse is like would be a better choice. Or simply locate the institutions which offer nursing courses in your location.

I admire your aspiration to be a nurse to look after patients - it's really a demanding job though meaningful!

Do an access to nursing course and that guarantees you a place on a nursing degree.

Hi

You could apply to join an access to nursing course which will require you to have to be generally 21, be committed to studying for it for one year full time (with all the financial implications that involves) or 2 years part time. You must usually have There are no formal entry requirements, but applicants should have a good general standard of education. Personal qualities and life experiences, including relevant work experience are important. A genuine interest in working with people is essential. It however does not guarantee you a place on a diploma programme, these are gained on merit through qualifications gained and experience.

You will not be able to apply for a degree programme or an advanced diploma as both of these require A Levels, however you are able to apply for a diploma course, essentially the same course and has the added benefit of a bursay. You will need 5 GCSEs to include Maths, English and Science at Grade C. The course lasts for 3 years and gives you a Diploma in Higher Education and Registered Nurse status. At the end of the day there is little benefit from following the degree programme as a newly trained staff nurse, it is only when you are heading towards management level that having a degree begins to matter.

Well i would suggest getting some care experience first...that way you will get a feel for what it's really like and to see if you want to do it as a career. That way you could do NVQ 2/3 in care which will get you on a nursing course. Alternatively, you could do an access course which will guarantee you entry. Some uni's are struggling to fill places lately due to the job freeze, so you may end up getting a place anyway. Nursing courses, both diploma and degree, have a notoriously high drop-out rate as they are quite tough academically, financially, emotionally and physically!!! So it's good to know what you are letting yourself in for!

Good luck, whatever you decide x
