Is it possabile to get a degree in Psychology and become a Nurse at the Sametime?

I have been taking my pre reqs for nursing school to get BSN degree then become a RN Nurse. Well I have been thinking about getting another degree in Psychology at the same time. I want to do both and they mostly have the same pre reqs I need to take. I like psychology because i find it interesting and I like nursing because I am always wantig to help people out. Is there a possabily of doing this ? I want to get both degrees or should I just choose One degree for right now? Both sound great. Has anyone done this before majored in two different degrees?

It depends on how far you want to go in your psychology studies. If you want to do any substantial work in the mental health field, you'll need to have at least a masters degree in psychology. Many states, however, don't even let masters-level psychology graduates perform psychotherapy; instead, they require psychotherapists to have completed a PhD in psychology, a social work program, or medical school with special training in psychiatry. Getting into a PhD or PsyD program in clinical psychology is harder than medical school - it requires substantial research and clinical experience, high test scores and grades, and a lot of work and dedication.

My advice would be to first complete your nursing degree. If you continue to be interested in psychology and feel that you would like to pursue both fields, I would consider working for a few years as a psychiatric nurse. Perhaps getting an advanced nursing degree in psychiatric nursing would also be a good idea. After gaining that type of clinical work, then you would be much more likely to be able to get into a graduate program in clinical psychology.

It's great that you have these interests though - both are interesting and incredibly useful disciplines to study.

Get a double major in psych and nursing. I got one in education and psychology

It depends on your school. Most nursing degrees are pretty straightforward in their plans and don't have a lot of room for electives. I know plenty of nursing students who have done minors in Psychology. You also usually only need 18 credit hours, which is how much a minor usually is, to study psych in grad school should you choose to do so.

Do nursing though...there is A LOT of money in nursing.

NOW A DAYS EDUCATION IS AT UR DOOR STEPS.
U CAN DO PSYCHOLOGY THROUGH DISTANCE LEARNING EITHER FROM INDIRA GANDHI NATIONAL OPEN UNIVERSITY, MAIDAN GARHI, NEWDELHI-110067 OR ANY OTHER UNIVERSITY OFFERING THE SAME WHILE CONTINUING UR STUDIES FOR NURSING AND ACHIEVE UR VISION. THIS IS THE BEST TIME WHEN ADS WOULD BE COMING RELATING TO THE COURSES AND ADMISSIONS.
GO AHEAD AND ALL THE BEST IN UR FUTURE ENDEAVOURS.

get your pre req. then get your nursing, then work part time and get your psych degree..they are both so intense and demanding there is no way you could do justice to both @ the same time and keep your sanity..Good luck..
