Nursing professionals...which would be the best route? I have a BA degree and I am at home with my kids...? |
Before kids, I used to work back office in a drs office and liked it so much that I entertained becoming a RN....I enjoy life sciences....and I do well with people. I am at the point where my kids are school aged and I feel I could take a class or 2 here and there, but I would like to work towards a goal ....the end result being a profession to do something I can manage part time while still being a mom first. I am thinking PRN at a hospital or part time at a drs office. Do you think this is realistic? what guidance do you have to offer? Jill....I wouldnt be working while taking classes...I would be taking classes around my kids' schedules...I would only work when the program of study would require it and then hopefully once registered...I could call the shots more. If you think you would enjoy nursing, that's a great career to get into. Being that you already have a bachelor's degree in another field, you could look for what they call "accelerated BSN" programs, where all you need to take is your nursing core courses. It usually takes about 2 years of full time, but many schools have part time options where you can stretch it out over 3 years (or more). Medical transcription or coding, both done from home. You may want to go down the route of a Physician's Assistant. Depending on the science classes you already have, it might be easier to go back to school and get a few pre-requisites and do the two-year master's degree program to become a physician's assistant. Idk, just a thought that I thought I would suggest. Yes, I definitely think that you can go to school while raising your kids, I know many people doing it and have done it. And nursing is a great field where you can do PRN and part-time work and make a wonderful salary and love what you do. Can you ask for more!?! Hope I have helped and Good luck! In anything you do,keep God first and foremost and He will lead. |
