Starting a new career at 40! Nursing?

can anyone tell me what will be expected in the 1st year of a nursing Degree? what projects will I be expected to complete and can I do anything now to prepare?

My mum became a nurse at 34 she is 42 now. she loves it. she is also a mentor.

basically if you are studying at university and depending on where you go to university you first few weeks are taken up with assignments etc. you are then taken through basic nurse training steps at the university. you know like checking passage ways and things like that. i believe you even learn how to give cpr and injections.

you will be given inoculations whilst you are working accademicly (sorry im not a good speller) and getting fitted for nursing uniform. then you get the oppourtunity to get some real hands on experience.

under the supervision of a mentor you will learn all the major skills that you need in nursing at a real hospital. you will remain with that hospital for several weeks before being transferred to another one. the university will do this so you have had experience in most things.

bear in mind that you will have to do this whilst doing all you academic work at the same time and your hours at the hospital will change all the time.

hope this helps
good luck
