Career advice please... can't decide between two options... accounting or nursing/grad med?

I am currently in upper sixth. I am studying Biology (B), Psychology (A), Maths/Statistics (B) at A Level, predictions in brackets.

I would love to be a doctor, but I do not have Chemistry, which is an essential. However, I could do a 3yr Nursing degree, followed by a 4yr Graduate Medicine degree [it's possible, I've researched]. However, this would take 7 years and I'm not sure if I would be guaranteed a job in it. [I could do a natural sciences undergrad degree, but I don't want to...!]

My other option is to work for a Big 4 Accounting firm, which also appeals to me. I already have an offer from them (BBB) and would be on a starting salary of 拢15000. I would spend 2yrs studying for AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) followed by 3yrs studying to become a ceritifed chartered accountant and tax advisor. This route does not require me to go to university.

What would you suggest? I'm interested to see what other people think about my situation. Thank you very much.

I think one pointer might be to decide if you are a "people " person or not. Nursing is a profession where you will be giving out a lot of yourself, will sometimes be dead tired and not always doing pleasant jobs. But the rewards are not in finance but in what you are giving to others. That feed back can be a real buzz.
However, do you get a buzz from maths? Can you see yourself fulfilled doing accounting all the time? Only you know what fulfills you.
I see your prediction for psychology is A. Might that give you a third avenue? Child guidance? Councelling?Other? I hope this helps a bit.

Accounting is boring :-)

be a nurse! its so rewarding and no two days at work are the same! im a nursing student at the mo, an love it! i just wouldnt become a doctor bacause i love getting to know the patients and it can b quite fun too! best of luck watever u chose!

I would go for nursing, doing something that will actually have a positive effect on others has to be a much more satisfying job choice :)

Hi Rebbeca,
Just taking a look at ur situation i suggest u to go for accounting firm.Coz, its a lot of money in the shorter period as well respectable job acoording to me.What r u wating for Miss Rebbecca?Wish u good luck !May the force be with u.
Thank u.

Know thyself. Then follow your dream. If you follow the money (or anything/one else) you may not like what you find.

Which one of these career paths would be most fulfilling to you?

Best do the accounting job.Its pays well and these days there is a wide range of diff accts work.Although being in the medical proffession is much more worthy and high minded, you have to be realistic.Accounting is not the most stimulating work, but the financial rewards are such that by the time you hit your mid forties you will have enough financial security to chuck it in and do something else without worrying about money. So if you want freedom to do what you want in your forties than sacrifice your yearnings now and earn a good amount, buy your property and ease off later
