What are the advantages of obtaining a higher degree in nursing?

What are the advantages of obtaining a higher degree in nursing?

If you get your Masters in Nursing, you become a Nurse Practitioner, sort of like a Physician Assistant. You get to see patients, diagnose them, and prescribe medication. You still need an MD to back you up. Prescriptions written by Nurse Practitioners have a doctor's signature on it also. I have heard of Nurse Practitioners who get together and open up their own clinic. Thus, you get more money, more prestige, a chance to open up your own practice and have your own patient load. The doctors don't tell you want to do.

Money, prestige and oportunities to climb the coporate ladder in the hospital. Go For It!

more pay. The higher you move up the nursing level, the better your chance of getting the exact job you want,. At BSN level you can be management or work in nursery, doctors offices, etc. Specialization is more likely with BSN or higher.
