After a AAS degree in nursing, is it possible for me to go directly to a medical school?

what are the steps i should take to go to medical school after an AAS degree in nursing {RN}

After a AAS degree in nursing,will i have to redo a 4 years baccaleaurate in order to go to medical school?

First, consider your age and if you want a life.

I'm a registered nurse with the A.S. degree (associate's in science). For awhile, I wanted to go to pharmacy school. Like what the other person wrote, you need a year of inorganic chemistry, year of organic chemistry, year of biology, and a year of physics. That's just the lower division!!! You still have to do upperdivision stuff.

Here's where nursing is great. I'm making $35 an hour and only work three 12 hour shifts a week. A fourth day becomes double time. I make good money and I have an awesome life in the weekends. I work in the ICU and I am always showing all the residents of what to do. Yes, they know book stuff, but they are far from ready.

You need to ask yourself some serious questions. A big misperception of nurses if what wipe butt all day. A nurse needs to know adverse reactions of meds, contraindications, side effects, pathphysiology of disease processes, signs and symptoms, diets, and a whole lot more. At times, we end up having to argue with the doctors because we don't think what they are doing is right. There are also times, when we tell a doctor to administer his own meds or find another nurse to "push" the drug because we believe it's going to do more harm than better.

So, being a nurse, you will have a lot of indepence and pride. But, don't get me wrong. There is a lot more headache that goes with that too. Family members who are not understanding drive me up the wall!!!! Like a neuro patient that has family always wanting to take loudly to them and you can see their cranial pressure going off the scale. And, when you politely tell them they curse you out!!! Whatever!! So, you end up being an advocate for the patient and defend them from event their own family.

I love this job! If you don't mind over ten years of schooling and a load of school loans, go right ahead!! With homes rising, I say you be an RN and save for your future!!!

Hi - I'm glad to hear that you are interested in pursuing a career as a physician! Unfortunately, applicants are required to obtain a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution before they can be admitted to medical school. Associate's Degrees are not sufficient. In addition, medical schools have certain prerequisites (course requirements) that must be fulfilled before your application will be considered. The Mayo Clinic Medical School, for example, requires a year of biology, a year of inorganic chemistry, a year of chemistry, a year of physics, and a year of biochemistry. Sometimes, schools may specify a timeframe in which these classes need to have been completed. Furthermore, you would need to register for and take the MCAT standardized exam. It is a bit of an ordeal, sometimes, just to meet the prerequisites for medical school, but if you are truly passionate about practicing medicine, it is all worth it in the end! Good luck!
