Will my Nursing Degree work in England?

If I get a nursing Degree in the United States will it matter if I move to Europe? Possibly England? Would I have to go back to school all over again?

Im not coming over to england because I want too...my wife is in the military and she might get stationed over there...I myself am not in the military and was wondering what my job situation would be...Im sorry if i offended the person who hates Immigrants..it must be really sad to live your life where you can't even bear the thought of meeting new people.

you may need to take part in a programme called "staff nurse under supervised practice". you have to apply to the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC). They will look at the criteria of your training and notify you what you need to do if anything to gain your british registration. They will write to you and if you need to take on a supervised placement you will receive a decision letter stipulating the time you need to complete this in. The decision normally lasts up to 2 years and the placement is normally 3 -6 months depending on your experience and training
You can find information on the NMC website regarding this. www.nmc.org.uk There is a document you can order about Nursing in the United Kingdom for overseas staff. The supervised placements should be sourced through Universities. You may find private companies advertising but as far as I understand they have to have University back-up. the placement is based around university work looking at different modules including management, communication and pharmacology. There are clinical assessments to complete which are known as Core Competencies. The supervised placement I am involved with there is not a formal exam, which I am sure is a relief for many
Good Luck and I hope this helps

You would have to pass our exams and pay to go on the register

Most likely have to recertify
You should check with the nursing school

your degree i believe will be valid but just like every where in the us different states have you have a state licence to nurse there so u may have to get a licence to work in england

it will work as long as you give them the right documents

you will have to go on a further training course and an extra exam (6months i think) and be registered over here. This is because the role of a nurse varies depending upon where you are in the world.

good luck with that

You will have to register your qualification with the NMC.
Check out what to do on the NMC home page under overseas.
Recruitment for British nurses is undergoing a bit of a jobs-freeze at the moment, so foreign nurses may find it a bit difficult at this time.
Good luck though.
