Obtaining nursing degree... what all do i have to do?

Ok so i decided i want a 2-year nursing degree, but i have no idea what that entails? does it include my generals? would i need an internship? will a hospital train me? how much can i make? thanks also any other info on the nursing field will help (job avilability etc.)

Also i heard there was waits for nursing school? does this mean there is gonna suddenly be a surplus of nurses?

Nursing school does require "general" classes (English, math, general computer orientations) to be completed, as well as prerequisites such as:
Anatomy and Physiology 1 & 2
Biology
Microbiology
possibly Chemistry
Sociology and/or cultural diversity
Psychology
Human Growth and Development
Medical Terminology
Pharmacology

While in school, you will learn and practice skills in lab and in a clinical setting. Most school will have clinical settings available in nursing homes, hospitals, psychiatric units, cardiac care, home/community health, and rehabilitation---all depending on the semester focus. This makes for a well-rounded education, but takes a lot of hard work and dedication!!

Some community colleges will only take so many nursing students per semester, and these schools have wait lists. If you plan on going to school part-time, you can complete the prerequisites while waiting. The advantage of the limited amount of nursing students at these schools is that you get more lab time and more individualized attention in the clinical setting. Otherwise, search for a school that doesn't require the wait.

Nurses in the US can make $30-$60,000 depending on the position, experience, and location of the facility. There are many, many possibilities with a nursing career-------you will be amazed at all of the options!

my fiance is a RN student through the local community college (its a lot cheaper than a University). She already has a 4 year degree so she was able to skip a few of the prereq's. Obviously you will be taking a lot of general medical couses and you'll also be doing rotations at local hospitals and such to learn on the job.

Most starting RN make $35,000-$40,000 a year, and employers often will include sign-on bonues if you agree to work for them for 2 years.

More than likely if you have never been to college before, even community colleges require that you take all of your prerequistes before they will allow you in their nursing program. There is a clinical portion of your studies which is generally like an internship. Your clinical is usually in different departments of a hospital and you have your clinical professor on the floor with you when you treat patients. Nurse salaries varies from state to state. And as you probably know, there is a nursing shortage across the country so there are job available everywhere.

nurses are needed everyday. so go for it ..
