Is there a job that allows you to travel with a teaching degree?

I want to be able to see the world and/or country and move to a different place about every 6 months to a year. I have a degree in education. I know that there are jobs like traveling nurses that go to hospital to hospital, any thing like that for teachers?

The only way you would probably be able to do this is to be a substitute teacher. The pay would not be that great, however. Department of Defense (DODs) does hire teachers to teach on its bases around the world, but it is quite difficult to get selected for the program. (Those chosen have years of teaching experience.) The teachers I know who teach for DODs don't move a lot. They will stay in the same position for a couple of years at least.

Look into Department of Defense schools.

Become a consultant. There are many programs that school districts invest in that require in-service training and model teachers. I was recently in a district level meeting where we were going to be paying the Connected Math people $1000 a day to in-service teachers on the program and do model lessons. They were also going to bring in some teachers for a year to help implement the program. The IB program has jobs of this nature for its schools around the world.

There are international schools you can go to. I don't know your religious preference, but Association of Christian School International is always looking for teachers to go abroad to a huge variety of countries. The schools are taught in English and you can go to a different place every year. You could teach English throughout the world. But I don't think there's anything like that traveling nurses thing. I knew someone who did that - I wish they did have such a thing for teachers!

I believe there is some book called something like "Teach Your Way Around the World." But I would think the advice on Dave's site would be more current.

Besides your degree in education, you would probably need to get a certificate in teaching English as a foreign language. Dave's forums have more info on that topic too.

Most job contracts would probably be for an academic year, from August/September to June/July. I think it would be hard to find something for six months.
