Undergrad research required to become PA or a NP?

As a "super senior" undergraduate following a pre-med curriculum, I've realized med-school is not for me and thus I'm exploring alternative health care fields.
I've been accepted to prestigious schools to conduct undergraduate research this summer, but am now torn as to whether or not I should even bother. Most medical schools require research but PA or NP programs do not. Should I finish my BS requirements first before I begin thinking about my continuing education, or will this research experience benefit me regardless of what career I choose?
Also, I want to know which route would be more practical: PA or NP? I'll have a B.S. and can do a masters entry into nursing to get certified as an RN in one year, and then continue onto a masters of nursing or I can go to PA school. I'm thinking both will take about 3 or 4 more years. Ideally I'd like to one day be able to practice on a more holistic approach and I think the NP way may better coincide with my aims... Any thoughts out there?

In most states you can have an independent practice as an APRN. You can not as a PA- you will practice what your employer says.

May I offer a hint? Knowing your interests have you done any research on ND (Doctor of Naturopathy, instead of doctor of medicine) programs. In Utah, (and acceptance is growing) you can be a primary care physician as an ND. The focus of an ND is holistic med.

Shoot me an email if you need any info (its at work so I can't get back to you until tomorrow).
