From MA to RN?

I am taking a program to start my career being an MA. In the future (anytime in the next few years) I would like to continue my educationt towards a nursing degree. I was wondering first because of my one year of college and my classes taken to become an MA would that lessen the time needed for me to complete my RN? Also I heard that some hospitals pay to have people further their education. If I was hired by a major hospital can an MA have a hospital give a person that much money towards an education?

Each Nursing school has it specific requirements in order to achieve an RN degree. Also it depends on whether you wish to receive an associates degree in nursing of your bachelors in nursing. Most hospitals will give tuition reimbursement for school but you have to sign a commitment contract with the hospital which usually involves committing to work for that institution for a specific number of years. If you opt out of that obligation then you have to pay back that tuition to the hospital... usually at a prorated price.

Check with human resources. Some hospitals have a program where you can go back to school and they will pay so much of your tuition. It depends on whether you work full or part time as to how much of your tuition they will pay.

As for your RN degree. It will depend on the college you go to. Some schools don't take other schools' credits. It's crazy. Get your transcripts together and take them to the nursing department of the college you want to attend and ask them to help you. They will be able to tell you about what they will accept and what you will need.

Hope this helps. Good luck!!

All of this is possible. I would suggest that you contact the school in which you are taking the MA program, and get a difinitive answer, also when you apply for a position as an MA, ask the HR people about the hospital's policy regarding further education.
