I need information on being a nurse????

im interested in being something along the lines of a nurse, but i've heard soooo many different things about being a nurse, i'm not even sure what it really is anymore, could someone please tell me???? i would also like to know what kind of education i would need????

To become an RN with a Bachelors degree you need 4 years of schooling.

A RN with an Associates degree requires 2 years. A lot of those programs are disappearing though.

Also, you could research becoming an LPN, but I do not know much about that. I know that it does not take as much as an RN. That is like a better CNA.

If you go for nursing it take a lot of dedication and hard work. I am currently in nursing school and I feel like all I ever do is study. I should actually be studying now. Even if you go part time it would be hard to have a full time job. I know at my school they only give you 5 years to complete the program. So it would be hard to get the 4 year program done part time in five years. It would be impossible.

Nurses pass medications, bath patients, do charting, and lots more. It just depends what you go into. There is so much. Like right now I am taking mental health nursing. That has nothing to do with a typical hospital setting.

Do some research on nursing professions and see if you even want to go into the profession. It takes a lot of work and money to go through school.

To become a RN you will need 4 yrs of nursing school

You only have to have your core PLUS two yrs in nursing for your Associate Degree in nursing. It is four yrs in nursing for the Bachelors Degree. Some job positions require that you have a Bachelors Ddegree-mainly if you are going to be in a supervisor position or education. I had heard at one time that they were going to do away with the two yr program. But that has been a while and I am really not sure if it will happen or not. I do suggest that you go ahead and pursue a RN degree whether it be two or four yrs because so many of the LPNs that I work with--which it only takes one yr to become a LPN--are going back to school to become a RN and to me it seems so much easier to go straight thru. I guess if you want to get a LPN license and then work while you are getting the RN license, it would benefit you that way.
I am an RN with an Associate Degree. I work in several areas of the hospital including Outpatient surgery, medical, surgical, peds, and oncology. I mostly work on the medical floor, but changing up breaks up the monotony of it all. It really feels good when you help someone especially the ones that really appreciate you. There are so many places where you could work, you would just need to go to school and do your clinicals and decide what is best for you. Good Luck!!

Mandie has a lot of good information. The RN program is a total of 4 years if you include the prerequisites like your maths, biologies, microbiology, psych classes so on and so forth. The RN program itself is two years. The LVN/LPN program is one year long not including prerequisites. Really the biggest difference between the two is that RN's can hang blood and pronounce a death. (Oh yeah, RN's make more money)
