Graduated as a nurse but couldn't do the work - any advice on career change eg. becoming a medical writer? |
Hi! I graduated as a Registered Nurse but after 3 months of dreading going to work and panic attacks, I left the job and never went back. Now I work as a medical typist, but find the fact that I have a degree that has been wasted quite depressing. I don't make enough money to be independent and really would like to have a job that pays well and makes use of my education. I love language and do find medicine and biology interesting and am considering pursing a medical writing path. Anyone have any suggestions on this? I am prepared to do further study but have a major maths phobia! Thanks! doctors offices would be a good place if you dont mind that work or how about taking your nursing degree and furthering it to a masters and then you can do more nurse manager type jobs or maybe even go into teaching with the degree. Insurance companies could use you. Health Insurance companies and Pharmaceutical companies hire nurses in a variety of positions including technical representative, sales representative, and customer service. a lot of nurses go into a different field such as podiatry, which is what i am, there were a lot of nurses on my degree course, which is 3 years, but you can also do shorter courses and be a foot health proffesional which is slightly less in depth. technical writing or journalism - write a medical column for the local paper or a magazine. It can be whatever health issue is being discussed in the community or whatever is on the news. And telling people how to deal with it. |
