Graduated as a nurse but couldn't do the work - any advice on career change eg. becoming a medical writer?

Hi! I graduated as a Registered Nurse but after 3 months of dreading going to work and panic attacks, I left the job and never went back. Now I work as a medical typist, but find the fact that I have a degree that has been wasted quite depressing. I don't make enough money to be independent and really would like to have a job that pays well and makes use of my education. I love language and do find medicine and biology interesting and am considering pursing a medical writing path. Anyone have any suggestions on this? I am prepared to do further study but have a major maths phobia! Thanks!

doctors offices would be a good place if you dont mind that work or how about taking your nursing degree and furthering it to a masters and then you can do more nurse manager type jobs or maybe even go into teaching with the degree.
there are different levels to the nursing degree and there are so many things you can do with it. It would be such a shame to just let it go to waste after all the hard work you put into it.
I am sorry you found being an RN not for you - we need good nurses. I know though because I am an RN that it is a very high stress job,but also very rewarding at the same time, but it is not the job for everyone

Insurance companies could use you.
Dr's office is a good choice.
Any job that gives you some financial security so you can pursue writing in spare time to start.

Health Insurance companies and Pharmaceutical companies hire nurses in a variety of positions including technical representative, sales representative, and customer service.

a lot of nurses go into a different field such as podiatry, which is what i am, there were a lot of nurses on my degree course, which is 3 years, but you can also do shorter courses and be a foot health proffesional which is slightly less in depth.
you could open a nursing home, you could look after the elderly in their own homes - such as sittting services.
i dont know anything about medical writing, i have never heard of that.
i gave up my career to raise my family and often feel i have wasted my degree, but nobody can ever take it away and you can do a lot with a nursing degreee.
phlebotomy has minimal training and not bad money, and you can already do that, or medical technology - ie lab work also pays well

technical writing or journalism - write a medical column for the local paper or a magazine. It can be whatever health issue is being discussed in the community or whatever is on the news. And telling people how to deal with it.
