Ever cheated on a college test?

I cheated on a test today in college. A friend gave me all of the answers to the test and I used them. Well, after the test, I felt HORRIBLE I m ean TERRIBLE. I could barely function and it was eating me alive. I had to go and tell the instructor that I cheated. I told her everything including the name of the person I got the answers from although she already knew. I've never cheated on anything in my life and now I know why, I don' t know how people live with this feeling. ANWAY...She said she has to talk to the Dean to see what is going to happen but she is glad that I told her and she said that it shows I'm remourseful about what I did and I am!! She said that the person who gave me the answers will be in more trouble than me. Do you think I'm going to get kicked out of school even though I've never cheated before? I got accpeted into a 2yr nursing program and I'm SO scared this is going to ruin my education. Please help, serious answers only please.

My motto used to be "if you aint cheating, you aint trying" but since I now teach college classes I have had to stop using that motto. I can understand both your side and the teachers side in this matter.

Most college teachers have to report cheating to the administration but it sounds like your teacher may be willing to stick up for you. You may have to meet with the Dean or other administration to resolve the matter and they will most likely want to know why you cheated. Be honest with them and assure them that you have never done it before and will never do it again.

I would hope that your college will be easy on you since this is the only time that they have had a problem with you. You may want to look at the college handbook and see what the policy on cheating is. Ours states that you will receive a failing grade for the assignment or for the course and other action if the administration feels it is appropriate.

Good Luck!

You were right, she gave me an F on the test and she let me stay in her class, I was SO relieved. The other people that didn't confess are in a lot more trouble Report It

You'll be fine.

I think that since you confessed right away, you'll have a much lighter penalty than the other person. More than likely you'll be suspended, but I don't think you'll be expelled.

I am a college prof. If one of my students cheated and then confessed almost immediately, I'd go easy on him/her. Most Unis have policies that allow the prof to decide what punishment to pursue: 1) failure of the assignment, 2) failure of the course, 3) petition to expel student from the university.

If your prof had already told her Dean about the cheating, she might be in a tight spot where she can't go as easy on you as she'd like, even though you confessed. I wouldn't be surprised if you were still issued a failing grade for the test. But hey, that's not so bad, considering what the other two options are.
