Career help! Please help me out if you can!?

I love working with children (preferably infants) however i dont not want to work in a daycare because the pay being so low scares me a little bit (that i wont be able to support myself, my family, etc.) I did want to become a neonatal nurse, but my grades arent that good, and i wouldnt be able to get into a good nursing program (my gpa is a 2.3) Plus, i'm not good with stress and nursing is ALOT of work that i just dont think i am capable of doing.

Specializing in special education was a suggestion that i received from my aunt, but i'm not sure if i would like to that.

Becoming a speech pathologist was also another recommendation that i got, however i'm not sure if i'm interested in that either.

Basically i wish that i knew all possible careers that deal with children (preferably infants)

Is there some type of medical assistant that works with neonatal nurses?

PLEASE HELP ME OUT IF YOU CAN, I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IT! THANKS! =)

I am making the assumption that the 2.3 is a college GPA, but correct me if I am wrong. If this is a high-school GPA, don't worry about your grades- just go to a community college to take your prerequisites, and do well in those. Nursing schools care much more about your performance in those early college classes than HS.

I would not suggest a career as a speech-pathologist, as that career requires a master's degree. You would not have good enough grades to get in to a graduate school that offers this program.

I would suggest exploring different career options by volunteering in the NICU or L&D, job shadowing, or getting a short certification like a CNA certificate and working in the healthcare field to see what careers you might like in healthcare. After getting some CNA experience, you might be able to work in the NICU, but it depends how things are done at hospitals in your area.

It sounds like you have an interest in working with kids. I think you should look in to becoming an occupational therapy assistant, or physical therapy assistant. You might also be able to become a respiratory therapist and work with infants, if you bring your grades up or go to a private, less selective school. The pay is pretty good for all these careers- roughly the same as an RN.

Also, medical assistants make about the same as child-care or preschool employees in some areas of the country (10-12/hr) If money is what deterred you from daycare, I would reconsider medical assisting.
