Tough time deciding between two careers?

My first choice was to be a nurse-RN, I went to college and completed my pre reqs up until anatomy, I had a tough time with the class and ended up dropping it so I didn't fail it, I again tried it the next semester but I was having a difficult time it again because the teacher was foreign and a new teacher and nothing against her it's completely my fault but I ended up dropping it yet again.

I then decided to change majors to Elementary Education, something I've been interested since I was in grade school. I started taking those classes this semester and I really do enjoy them, I've got the opportunity to go into the classroom and even began substitute teaching.

But now I'm so torn between the two I don't know what to do, I'm obviously going to finish this semester of my education classes but I can't decide if I want to go back into nursing or continue a degree in Elm. ed.

I know I would love both careers, but I'm having a tough time deciding what one to go with, any advice?

I would choose Elementary Education over RN for the following reasons (if your main concern is altruism, however, please choose RN, they're just simply aren't enough):

-better pay in the long run if you make a career out of it
-equally stable job as RN, educators are rarely fired once hired
-less-grueling hours
-your vacation breaks will coincide with your kids' (when/if you get to that point) so you can all go as a family
-decent to very good insurance benefits (some RNs don't even get that good benefits)
-better retirement package as schools are pretty good at providing pensions and matching retirement funds
-lives are rarely "on the line" in education
-you get to shape young minds =)

Both professions are very respectable and it does take a very dedicated individual to be either.

But remember, work is only one aspect of your life and if you know you would love both careers then maybe you can write down on a piece of paper all the advantages and disadvantages of each career as it relates to your lifestlye. For instance:

Which position gives you more flexibility?
More pay (if that is what you want)?
Better for your family?
Better for your health (more stress, less stress)?
What career will give you more time to explore 'life' outside of work?
If you are looking for career growth; to continue to improve yourself, which position allows you to 'grow' more?
Which position allows you to do what you like to do (sports, be with friends, gardening, staying up late and partying) etc..?

Good luck!
