Are the London Olympics 2012 with their spiralling costs and the cost of replacing trident? |
Good value for the Uk or would the extra 18 billion pounds have been better spent on other projects ,like building new hopsitals, better education ,more police, more doctors and nurses ,better enviromental issuses etc.? i reckon the money could have been better spent elsewhere - like u say, hospitals, schools, police, public service in general! I think that its typical of our Governemnt - their priorities are all wrong. The money thats is allocated for such sports events and for the renewal of our nuclear arms programme could go a long way in helping to address the social issues faced in our society. but will the Government listen? no. Forget our social issues, forget our youth. Roll on the glory that the Olymics will bring to the UK. When will the world understand that the Olympics is a traveling caravan. tricking the host sites of furnishing everything free including the labor and the free participation of the contestants. Then they take it upon themselves to distribute the proceeds. Report It they built a small bridge in newtown powys the cost was going to be 50,000, finish cost 200.000 Forget Trident which is a waste of 25 billion, diplomacy costs nothing. Use diplomacy more. The Foreign ministries of each nation should do their bit. Monies can be utilised better, i.e. hospitals, dentists, doctors and less red tape A lot of money could have been spent on matters that seem more urgent to us now. A lot of the proposed budget is actually re-generating run-down areas of London so in that espect the money is been put to good news. The spectacle of hosting the Olympics (the biggest show on earth) could be worth billions in revenue when the games take place so it's swings and round-abouts. The Olympics will never present good value - but that doesn't matter - it is too important an opportunity to miss! I am looking forward to going to it already. The EU will move the 2012 games to Paris and say it is London. We could only dream that a government will actually put some serious money into the public services. If people actually stopped being so diplomatic and show in blood how much our government has hurt us, then something might be done. Trident is essential for our defence. Some idiots wearing lycra and throwing sticks we can heartily do without. Keep Trident, give the Olympics to some other country, anywhere. If you think that the cost of either will stay at 拢9bn then you are rather naive. the unnecessary Olympics will cost at least 拢20bm and the new Trident will cost the same. We only need Trident to defend our selves against the Americans who do not invade any country where there are Nuclear weapons, but the Olympics are a complete waste of our money, especially when we are told that there is no money for Pensions, Schools, Hospitals, Roads, Railways etc. |
