Should the USA and Canada accept third world medical doctors & other proffessionals into their work force? |
There are thousands of proffesionally trained individuals, like doctors, nurses.teachers etc who are driving cabs or working in donuts shops in New york and Toronto. If they were good enough to work effectively in their homelands, why can't they be given jobs in North America.Isn't this discrimation, are they saying that the standard of education in third world countries are inferior...what a waste of knowledge..people with PHD's driving cabs or fliping burgers.THis is crazy. In Canada, (as I believe it is in the States) they have to pass a series of tests to ensure that they are up to the expectations of the professional community in which they are trained. All this costs money and takes time. I agree that the system should be overhauled and quickly. There isn't any reason that such a person, a doctor for example, couldn't take an initial test to see where they fit, then work in a hospital to train under the care of the resident for a year if need be (including learning English if needed), take an additional exam or two at the end of the year and pass with flying colours I'm sure. As long as they are able to pass equivilancy tests, then sure...but they would also need to have a slight grasp of the language in a classroom/hospital setting. I think people become wary as HR's when they come across 3 good candidates--2 from the US with easily verifiable credintials and 1 from Ukraine with foreign references and certs. Well, there are plenty of foreign-born and foreign-educated medical doctors and other professionals in the US and Canada. |
