Confused about which major to choose. Help!?

I am a junior in college and I have switched majors several times. Wvery since I was young I have wanted to be a teacher or a nurse ( if I could do both I would). I am currently an education major but somehow I always seem drawn back to nursing school even though it is much more challenging than teaching. I just want to be in a field where I can help make people better not only through education but also physically and emotionally. I am stuck and it seems like i will never get out of college. Can anyone relate or has any ideas. Please only serious answers.

Follow your heart, because you'll have to live with that choice. Most people find that they are fulfilled when they choose something that they like and motivates them, as in "I love to go to work every morning."

At least you have two options you've basically narrowed it down to. Nursing will pay more but is more stressful. Only you can decide which you want to do.

where do you think you'll be happier? do you like little kids? are you gentle and caring? both careers are good ones.

If you are serious about nursing, then go to nursing school. Nurses can be teachers, too... they need nursing teachers in colleges, or nurses to teach birthing classes, or nurses even in schools. So there are options for you to do both.

The Nursing Field, i believe, is always in need of new people to help at hospitals. Plus, you'd be potentially saving lives as a nurse and making more money, although i hate to mention that as a pro because you seem to enjoy the aspects of the job rather than the income. Nurses have good benefits but is probably very demanding, and probably not the best choice if you want to have a lot of free time. Teachers get crappy money, plus they'd have to teach the same thing over and over again year after year.

Take nursing. Its a bigger paycheck. Then continue your education until you can Teach nursing! Then you would have the best of both worlds!!

Maybe you need to job shadow both jobs for a day or two
Internship on the better of the 2 after that
Education is expensive
Try to narrow it down to 1 field to pursue
Sometimes the actual work doesn't meet expectations
Interview actual people doing both kinds of jobs
What do they like or dislike?
What was different than what they expected?
What would they change if they could?
You could find out a lot that way also.
Learn as much as you can from other people's experience.
Saves you time & grief.

There are a number of careers that combine education and medicine. For example, dental hygienists, radiology technicians, occupational therapists, physical therapists, to name a few.

I suggest you make an appointment to meet with a career counselor at Career Services. S/he is very helpful, resources are available, and they will help you make the best choice for you.

Best wishes.

Maybe just finish your major that your in now, get into the field. Later on go back into nursing. You will already have a good job, enough money, and time to go back.

I think both Nursing School and Teaching School are great. My friend is a nurse, she told me that it was easy for her to find a job after she graduated, because a nurse is always needed in a hospital, and she seems to enjoy helping others and working in a hospital. I don't know about teaching though...

Same as you, I like to help people, that's why I chose a Psych major. Maybe you can have a major in Nursing and a minor in Teaching, or vice versa. Or you can always ask for guidance from the College/Career Counselor.

Good luck :)
